Chapter 6 - THE CAMERA IN THE BARN
The friends who laughed outside my box began turning on each other.
Tyler claimed Jason ordered everything.
Chris claimed Tyler planned the filming.
Both said they believed I could leave whenever I wanted.
The shed lock, funeral plan, sedatives, and hidden records destroyed that defense.
Tyler’s phone contained hundreds of videos.
Most showed cruelty.
Some accidentally showed evidence.
In one clip, Jason and Margaret discussed moving women through the private clinic.
In another, Judge Vale accepted an envelope.
A third video showed a camera mounted above the starvation box.
Jason had recorded me continuously.
The system uploaded to a remote server.
Investigators found footage from Sarah, Megan, and Claire.
Sarah was shown hiding something beneath a floorboard.
Agents returned to the shed.
They found a small metal key.
It opened a cabinet at Margaret’s foundation office.
Inside were original birth certificates for twelve children.
Every mother had been told the baby died, disappeared, or was adopted legally.
None had given informed consent.
The records gave prosecutors enough to suspend several guardianship orders and begin locating families.
But the files also contained my signature on a voluntary-surrogacy agreement.
It looked real.
A handwriting expert confirmed it was mine.
I remembered no agreement.
Dr. Reed tested archived blood taken around the signing date.
I had been heavily sedated.
A camera video showed Jason guiding my hand across the paper.
The signature was real.
The consent was not.
That distinction became central to Rebecca Sloan’s legal strategy.
A body can perform an action while the person has no meaningful choice.
Then Claire Donovan’s file opened.
She had not survived.
Her remains were found beneath the second farm’s old well.
Jason’s charge became murder.
