Chapter 7 - THE OTHER CHILDREN

The Vale program had operated for twenty-five years.

Samuel and Lenora recruited families through pediatric charities. Children with rare disorders received experimental treatment without proper consent.

Twins were especially valuable because one could serve as a comparison.

Some parents knew.

Some were deceived.

Some children were declared dead and moved under false identities.

Caroline believed at least eighteen children had passed through the estate.

The vault contained names, procedures, payments, and recordings.

Samuel wanted to destroy it.

Lenora wanted to control it.

The unknown helper revealed herself through a secure email.

Nurse Carla.

She had worked at Vale Manor as a student nurse eight years earlier.

She witnessed Samuel treating a restrained child and reported him.

The complaint disappeared.

Lenora threatened Carla’s family.

Carla later joined the hospital specifically because she suspected Vale children might eventually arrive.

She sent the first recording after recognizing Julian.

She had also helped Jonah enter the ICU corridor.

Jonah escaped Samuel briefly and asked to see his brother.

Carla supplied the gown.

She did not know Samuel had followed him.

I was angry she kept secrets.

She accepted it.

“I should have gone to federal authorities years ago.”

“Why didn’t you?”

“I was afraid.”

Fear again.

But Carla had finally acted.

That difference mattered.

She knew a service tunnel beneath Vale Manor leading toward the vault.

Ortiz planned a covert entry.

Caroline insisted on coming.

Doctors refused because of her condition.

She gave me the code instead.

The twins’ birthday.

At the estate, federal agents entered through the tunnel.

The vault stood at the end.

Samuel waited beside it with Jonah.

He held a syringe against the boy’s neck.

Lenora appeared from another passage.

She had escaped hospital security during a staged medical complaint.

Mother and son faced each other.

May you like

Neither had come to save Jonah.

Both came for the ledger.
