Chapter 3 - THE THIRD SISTER

Her name was Evelyn Shaw.

Rose, Claire, and Evelyn were triplets separated after birth through a private fertility program. I raised Rose. Claire was adopted by another family. Evelyn was placed in a church-run identity program.

Eleanor believed separating them would protect the trust from Arthur’s father, Robert, who wanted one legal heir he could control.

The sisters reunited as adults after Rose discovered Arthur stealing from the girls’ education accounts.

Claire investigated the mortuary. Evelyn searched church files. Rose watched Arthur.

Their plan was to fake one sister’s death and capture Arthur transferring assets.

But Claire ended up dead for real.

Then the numbers beside the girls’ names were decoded as safe-deposit compartments.

Lucy’s box held bank records.

Rachel’s held medical files.

April’s held an adoption record.

The trust was not one inheritance. It was three different assets assigned to three girls.

Then Evelyn called me.

“Rose is alive, but injured.”

“Where?”

“First answer this. Did Lucy open the envelope?”

“Yes.”

“Then Arthur knows which girl holds the controlling key.”
