April was Claire’s biological daughter.
Claire nearly died after giving birth and asked Rose to care for the baby temporarily. Rose became April’s legal mother. Arthur registered himself as father.
The arrangement became permanent.
Arthur used the secret to control both women.
If Rose exposed his fraud, he would reveal April’s origins and destroy the family.
Claire had recently sought legal recognition as April’s biological mother.
Someone killed her before she could testify.
The autopsy showed a sedative from Dr. Samuel Vale’s Savannah clinic. Vale had also signed Rose’s false death certificate.
He claimed Vanessa paid him to certify the wrong body.
Police found Rose’s blood inside his clinic.
Under an exam table, she had scratched:
DAD, TRUST THE GIRLS. NOT THE SISTERS.
