Noah did not testify.

“Yes.”
“Then fear stopped being the explanation.”
Cassandra lowered her head.
Adrian was convicted of kidnapping, attempted murder, medical assault, and trafficking.
Cain received a life sentence.
Judge Vance was convicted of bribery and obstruction.
Cassandra pleaded guilty and received twenty-four years.
The judge cited her cooperation but emphasized the harm to both children.
Charles received life without parole.
Miriam received multiple life sentences.
At sentencing, she asked to speak to me.
“You could continue my work legally.”
“No.”
“You have the intelligence.”
“Yes.”
“You have the genetic access.”
“No human being is access.”
She smiled as if disappointed.
Then marshals led her away.
Elijah’s case was different.
He had not known about the trafficking network when Noah was conceived.
But he had knowingly used forged evidence to take custody.
He had ignored warning signs.
He had helped Cassandra isolate me.
He pleaded guilty to custodial interference, fraud, and conspiracy to falsify records.
His cooperation reduced the sentence.
He received eight years.
Before prison, he signed away all decision-making authority over Noah.
Not his identity as a father.
His power to control.
“I hope one day he lets me explain,” he said.
“That will be his decision.”
Toby entered long-term guardianship with Elijah’s older aunt, Margaret, who had lived abroad and knew nothing about the network.
Lily stayed with her maternal aunt.
Vanessa and Ethan entered witness protection until Adrian’s associates were arrested.
Ava’s guardianship hearing was scheduled for spring.
