Chapter 6 - The Plane in the Storm

The charter hit the runway hard.

One wheel collapsed.

The aircraft twisted sideways and slid through the wet grass.

Emergency crews raced toward it.

Flames rose near the left engine.

I ran before anyone could stop me.

The rear door opened.

A man jumped out carrying a medical case.

Adrian Vale.

He saw the police and turned back.

Morales tackled him before he reached the wing.

Another figure appeared behind him.

A frightened flight attendant.

“Noah is still inside!”

I climbed the stairs.

Smoke filled the cabin.

A small body lay strapped to a stretcher.

Noah.

My son.

A clear mask covered his face.

His wrists were restrained.

I released them with shaking hands.

“Mom?” he whispered.

“I’m here.”

I lifted him.

He felt too light.

A woman stepped from the cockpit holding a pistol.

Not Cassandra.

A younger woman with the same sharp features.

Serena Vale.

Cassandra’s sister.

“Put him down,” she said.

The flight attendant froze.

I held Noah tighter.

“He needs oxygen.”

“He needs to come with us.”

“Your brother is in custody.”

She glanced toward the door.

Police lights reflected through the smoke.

Fear entered her eyes.

Then Noah began convulsing.

The gun lowered slightly.

Doctor before mother.

Mother before fear.

I placed him on the floor and checked his airway.

His pulse was fast.

His pupils reacted poorly.

Adrian had given him a strong sedative.

Serena shouted, “Move away.”

I ignored her.

She stepped closer.

Noah’s monitor alarmed.

The flight attendant threw a metal coffee pot at Serena’s arm.

The gun fired into the ceiling.

Police stormed the cabin.

Serena was taken down.

I carried Noah outside as firefighters covered the plane in foam.

Elijah stood behind the barricade.

When he saw Noah, his face crumpled.

I did not hand my son to him.

I placed Noah in the ambulance and climbed inside.

At the hospital, tests showed no permanent injury.

But his blood had been drawn repeatedly.

Adrian planned a forced marrow harvest.

Toby was not the intended recipient.

The recipient file named a different child.

Cassandra’s daughter.

A daughter no one knew existed.

Six-year-old Lily Vale.

She had leukemia.

Cassandra had hidden her existence to protect a family inheritance arrangement.

Toby was Elijah’s son from his first marriage.

Lily was Cassandra’s child from another relationship.

Noah had been kidnapped because he was the closest match.

Cassandra had nearly killed Toby because he discovered the plan.

I understood the cruelty.

But I also understood the desperation of a parent facing a sick child.

That did not excuse kidnapping.

It made the truth more dangerous.

Then Morales entered Noah’s room.

“Cassandra escaped during transport.”

“How?”

“Someone inside the department helped her.”

My phone buzzed.

A video appeared.

Cassandra sat beside a pale little girl in a hospital bed.

Lily.

Behind them stood Elijah.

A gun pressed against his neck.

Cassandra looked into the camera.

May you like

“Bring Noah to me, or both of them die.”

👉 Cassandra had escaped with her sick daughter and taken Elijah hostage, forcing Naomi to choose between protecting Noah and saving two more lives.
