Chapter 9 - The Friday Plan

Ms. Harris crouched several feet away.

“Where were they sending you, Liam?”

He buried his face against Madeline’s cardigan.

“I don’t know.”

“That’s okay.”

Rosa brought him water in a clean cup.

After several quiet minutes, Liam pointed toward Jeffrey’s phone.

“Daddy talked about a school.”

Jeffrey’s eyes widened.

“It was a therapeutic program.”

Madeline turned.

“What program?”

“For children with behavioral issues.”

“He is four.”

“He has separation problems.”

“He was separated from me because you lied.”

Daniel opened Jeffrey’s discarded folder.

Inside were enrollment forms for a residential behavior facility in another state.

The program accepted children as young as four.

The papers described Liam as violent, destructive, and emotionally disturbed.

Madeline read every line.

None of it was true.

The application had been signed by Jeffrey.

A second signature had been forged in Madeline’s name.

Cynthia stepped away from him.

“You said he was going to boarding school.”

“He needed structure.”

“You told me Madeline approved.”

Jeffrey snapped, “You knew she didn’t.”

Cynthia’s face changed.

She had expected to replace Madeline.

She had not expected to become evidence against Jeffrey.

Noelle stepped between them.

“My son was under pressure.”

Daniel looked at her.

“Pressure does not explain locking a child in a storage room.”

Noelle pointed at Cynthia.

“She created this mess.”

Cynthia laughed in disbelief.

“You invited me into this house.”

“You were supposed to help Jeffrey start over.”

“You gave me Madeline’s jewelry!”

Jeffrey hissed, “Both of you need to stop talking.”

Madeline watched them destroy one another.

For the first time since entering the mansion, she did not feel powerless.

She felt clear.

She turned to Ms. Harris.

“I want Liam examined by a pediatrician. I want the storage room documented. I want every camera file preserved.”

Ms. Harris nodded.

“That process has already begun.”

Jeffrey stepped toward Madeline.

“You can’t take him.”

“He is my son.”

“He is mine too.”

Madeline looked at the false DNA report.

“You stopped acting like his father long before today.”

Sirens sounded faintly outside.

Noelle’s face turned white.

“You called the police?”

Daniel shook his head.

“The security company did.”

Everyone looked at him.

He pointed toward the mansion’s control panel.

“When Jeffrey tried to delete the recordings ten minutes ago, the system triggered a tampering alert.”

Jeffrey stared at the panel.

“I didn’t touch it.”

Cynthia slowly backed away.

Her hand was still holding Jeffrey’s phone.

👉 Cynthia had tried to erase the evidence—but instead, she had unlocked the private messages proving the affair and the conspiracy.
