Chapter 6 - The Envelope From My Father

I opened the envelope in front of Henry.

Not Viola.

Not Carlo.

Just Elena, Henry, and me.

Inside were three pages.

The first was a letter.

Matteo,

If you are reading this, then your mother has chosen control over family again.

I stopped.

Again.

My father had known this pattern long before I did.

He wrote that Viola had repeatedly pressured him to consolidate all shares under Carlo because she believed Carlo was “stronger.”

My father disagreed.

Carlo was aggressive.

Impulsive.

Easy for Viola to influence.

My father trusted me because I questioned him.

Not because I obeyed him.

Then came the sentence that changed everything.

Luca’s trust is not only about inheritance. It is the mechanism that prevents Viola and Carlo from controlling Russo Holdings after I am gone.

The second page explained the structure.

Luca’s trust carried enhanced voting rights once activated.

Combined with my shares, it would give our branch majority control.

Carlo’s forfeiture clause could push that control even higher.

The third page was personal.

Protect your child before you protect the family name.

I read that line again and again.

Because for years, Russo men had been taught the opposite.

Protect the name.

Protect the company.

Protect the appearance.

My father had finally learned differently.

Maybe too late for himself.

Not too late for me.

Then Henry said quietly:

“There’s another issue.”

“What?”

“If Viola forged the revocation and destroyed estate documents, this goes beyond a family dispute.”

Fraud.

Evidence destruction.

Potential breach of fiduciary duty.

The board would have to investigate.

Viola wasn’t just losing control of the family.

She might lose legal control of everything.

When we confronted her, she didn’t deny the forged letter anymore.

She justified it.

“Anthony was dying.”

“He was competent.”

“He was emotional.”

“So you overruled his will?”

“I protected what he built.”

“You protected yourself.”

She slapped me.

Hard.

The room went silent.

I didn’t react.

I just looked at her.

“You’re done making decisions for my family.”

Viola’s hand shook.

Then she looked past me at Luca.

And said:

“That child has ruined everything.”

Elena stepped forward instantly.

“No.”

Her voice was calm.

May you like

“You ruined everything the moment you decided a baby was your enemy.”

👉 Viola finally said aloud what she had been hiding for years—and the board was about to hear every word.
