Corinne’s defense began immediately.
Claire was unstable.
Margaret manipulated everyone.
Ryan interfered.
Ethan became violent.
Maisie was too young to understand anything.
Some arguments deserved examination.

Corinne had signed Warren Carter’s removal order as a witness.
She never filed it.

Ethan testified.
“What made you open the cabinet?”
“Maisie pointed to it.”
Corinne’s attorney objected to treating a toddler’s statement as proof of document content.
Julia agreed it wasn’t proof.

Maisie simply led Ethan to them.
Then investigators recovered home camera fragments.
One clip showed Corinne standing beside the cabinet weeks earlier.

“If you keep pointing at that cabinet, Daddy’s going to send you away.”
Ethan closed his eyes.

She said you’d abandon me, too.
Corinne had been telling a child that Ethan abandoned Claire.
Then threatening that Maisie would be next.
Claire’s hand trembled.

They both noticed.

Her attorneys approached prosecutors about cooperation.
Corinne had blamed Margaret for the entire scheme.
Margaret decided she would not carry it alone.
She turned over emails.
Bank records.
And voice messages.
One message from Corinne was especially damaging.
“If Ethan thinks Claire is dead long enough, he’ll eventually stop asking questions.”
Silence filled the room.
