Chapter 10 - The Hallway Recording

Ethan called the head of his security company.

He did not explain everything.

He asked one question.

“Do we have archived footage from the west hallway?”

The answer came immediately.

“Yes, sir. Ninety days.”

Victoria moved toward him.

“You cannot access private footage without telling me.”

Ethan stared at her.

“It is my security account, in my house, covering a common hallway.”

Her lips parted.

No answer came.

Within minutes, the footage appeared on Ethan’s laptop.

The first recording showed Margaret walking carefully toward the kitchen with her cane.

Victoria stepped in front of her.

Margaret asked for her phone.

Victoria grabbed the cane and threw it aside.

Margaret reached for the wall.

Victoria shoved her shoulder.

Margaret fell.

Victoria stood over her.

“If you tell Ethan, I’ll make sure he puts you in a facility where no one visits.”

A guest began crying.

The next recording showed Victoria dragging Margaret’s suitcase down the hallway and throwing her belongings into the laundry room.

Another showed her ordering the housekeeper not to feed Margaret without permission.

Then Ethan opened a clip dated four days earlier.

Victoria was on the phone.

Her voice was clear.

“Keep Margaret weak until she signs. Once the trust amendment is finished, we won’t need her cooperation anymore.”

Ethan froze.

Victoria’s face lost all color.

Margaret lifted her head.

“What trust amendment?”

No one moved.

Ethan replayed the sentence.

Once the trust amendment is finished.

He turned toward Victoria.

“What were you trying to make her sign?”

Victoria backed away from the table.

“It was estate planning.”

“Whose estate?”

She said nothing.

Ethan’s mother had very little money.

At least, that was what everyone believed.

But Margaret’s late husband had left behind more than a modest retirement account.

And Victoria had somehow discovered it.

👉 The cruelty was never only about removing Margaret from Ethan’s life—it was about forcing her to surrender something hidden for thirty years.
