Chapter 15 - The House Was Never Hers
Victoria stood near the staircase as Ethan returned from his study carrying a blue folder.
The guests had gathered their belongings but refused to leave Margaret alone.
The doctor remained nearby.
Lauren still held her phone.
Ethan placed the folder on the table.
Victoria stared at it.
“What is that?”
“The ownership agreement for this house.”
She gave a nervous laugh.
“Our house?”
“No.”
Ethan opened the folder.
“The mansion was purchased through a family trust created before our marriage.”
Victoria’s expression tightened.
“So?”
“My mother is the trust’s original beneficiary.”
Margaret looked at him in surprise.
Ethan had never told her because he wanted the mansion to feel like his gift to the family.
Victoria stared at the white walls, the chandeliers, and the garden she treated as her private kingdom.
“You said this was ours.”
“I said it was our home.”
“You lied to me.”
“No. You never asked who owned it.”
Her breathing became fast.
“You cannot remove me from my own house.”
Ethan’s voice stayed calm.
“You just spent months imprisoning the legal beneficiary in a laundry room.”
Victoria looked toward Margaret.
For the first time, fear replaced arrogance entirely.
Margaret did not smile.
She did not celebrate.
She simply watched the woman who had humiliated her realize that every room she controlled had been protected by the person she tried to destroy.
Ethan closed the folder.
“You will not speak to my mother again without her attorney present.”
Victoria’s eyes flashed.
“You’ll regret humiliating me.”
Lauren stepped forward.
“No, Victoria. You humiliated yourself.”
One by one, the guests placed their phones on the table and agreed to preserve every recording.
Victoria looked around the room.
There was no one left to impress.
No one left to frighten.
