Chapter 7 - The Uninvited Witness

A black sedan waited near the entrance to the estate.

Dr. Adrian Cole sat in the back seat.

He looked exhausted.

His tie was loose, and his hands would not stop moving.

Evelyn had found him the night before at a motel outside Ventura. He had been preparing to leave the country.

He agreed to meet because Sienna had not paid him.

More importantly, he was frightened.

“She told me the petition was just leverage,” he said. “She said nobody would actually confine you.”

“You signed a false medical report.”

“I know.”

“You entered my father’s office.”

“I know.”

“You helped them build a case to strip me of my legal rights.”

His eyes dropped.

“Yes.”

I wanted to hate him loudly.

Instead, I placed my phone on the seat between us.

“Tell the truth.”

He recorded a statement explaining that Sienna first contacted him four months earlier. She offered him two hundred thousand dollars to create a psychological narrative around me.

Landon knew the report was false.

He had provided private messages describing my grief after my grandmother’s death.

He had selected the most emotional sentences and presented them as evidence of instability.

Dr. Cole also revealed something worse.

Sienna had prepared medication.

A sedative strong enough to make me disoriented but not unconscious.

She intended to have it slipped into my drink if I arrived before the ceremony.

A confused confrontation would make the medical report appear true.

“Who was supposed to drug me?” I asked.

“Landon’s mother.”

I closed my eyes.

Margaret had called me her daughter for seven years.

She had sat beside me at my grandmother’s funeral.

Now she was inside my house waiting to poison my champagne.

Evelyn took Dr. Cole’s statement and instructed him to remain available to investigators.

Then she handed me a small wireless microphone.

“Everything you say in that garden will be recorded.”

“And everything they say?”

“Recorded twice.”

I approached the estate through the service entrance.

Rosa met me beneath the trees.

From there, I could see the floral arch.

Sienna stood beneath it wearing my pearls.

Landon held her waist.

Margaret moved among the guests with a silver tray of champagne.

One glass bore a tiny white ribbon around its stem.

My glass.

The one prepared for me.

Rosa whispered, “They know you might come.”

I watched Margaret place the marked glass near the front row.

Then Sienna looked toward the mansion and smiled.

She believed every exit had been covered.

May you like

She had no idea I was already inside.

👉 Before Maya entered the aisle, she replaced the marked champagne glass—and Margaret was about to reveal exactly who had ordered the drugging.
