Julian had believed Agnes was protecting his control.

Arthur traced several transfers to a private account in Switzerland.
The beneficiary was not Julian.
It was Agnes.

“You were abandoning me.”
Agnes remained composed.
“I was protecting what remained.”
“You used my company.”
“You were careless enough to let me.”

“You signed hundreds of papers without reading them. Why should this one matter?”
Julian looked at Evelyn.
For years, he had accused her of being ungrateful.

Evelyn felt no pleasure in his pain.

“You think this makes you superior?”
“No.”
“You hid behind your father.”
“My father created protections because you created danger.”
Agnes’s eyes moved toward Lily, sleeping in Evelyn’s arms.
“She is still a Mercer.”
Evelyn tightened her hold.
“She is a child. Not an asset.”
Police obtained warrants.
Agnes’s passport was seized.
Her offshore accounts were frozen.
Julian’s company was placed under independent supervision.
Investors began withdrawing.
The ballroom deal collapsed within hours.
Then Agnes made one final claim.
Thomas Vale had not purchased the Mercer mansion legally.
She said he used confidential information to acquire the debt.
If true, the trust ownership could be challenged.
Arthur requested the original purchase records.
One document was missing.
The same document the red folder was supposed to contain.
Evelyn searched it again.
The deed confirmation was gone.
