Chapter 13 - THE MASKED SURGEON
Luke used credentials stolen from the delivery house.
He entered through a staff elevator and reached the neonatal corridor before security recognized him.
I saw him through the glass.
White coat.
Mask.
Eyes fixed on Noah.
The first Caroline triggered the emergency alarm.
Michael blocked the nursery entrance.
Luke pulled a scalpel.
He shouted that Noah belonged to him because the marriage made him father.
The law did not.
Biology did not.
Violence never had.
Security surrounded him.
Luke grabbed a nurse and demanded the child.
Then Eli stepped into the corridor with Dr. Hart.
The six-year-old looked at Luke and said:
“You’re the man who hurt my mother.”
Luke froze.
For years, he had treated unborn boys as threats.
Now one stood before him.
Alive.
Witnessing.
Luke released the nurse.
Michael moved.
Security restrained him.
No heroic execution.
No final revenge.
Luke was arrested in front of the children he failed to erase.
Then his attorney argued severe childhood manipulation diminished responsibility.
The court allowed the history into evidence.
It did not erase choice.
