Chapter 13 - HELEN’S FIRST VISIT

It took almost three years before I allowed my mother supervised contact with the children.

Not because a calendar said three years.

Because behavior changed.

She completed counseling.

Respected boundaries.

Stopped sending gifts when told not to.

Stopped using relatives as messengers.

Apologized without demanding access.

Rebecca wanted to see her.

Samuel was uncertain.

Jacob barely remembered the party clearly.

We met at a park.

Helen did not hug anyone until they initiated.

Rebecca eventually did.

Samuel did not.

Helen accepted it.

Then Samuel asked:

“Why did you call us trash?”

Helen went still.

“I shouldn’t have.”

“Why?”

“Because I was angry at your dad and wanted to make him feel small.”

“You made us feel small.”

“Yes.”

“Did you know?”

She cried.

“Yes.”

Samuel nodded.

Then went back to the swings.

No forgiveness ceremony.

May you like

Truth.

Enough for one day.
