Chapter 7 - ROBERT’S BUSINESS COLLAPSED

Miller Hospitality stopped operating.
No dramatic raid.
Vendors simply stopped extending credit.
Two employees left.
Upcoming events were refunded where possible.
Business equipment was sold through an orderly liquidation negotiated with creditors.
Robert blamed me.
“You destroyed everything.”
I said:
“No. I disputed a debt I didn’t sign.”
“You could have covered it.”
That sentence clarified our entire relationship.
I could have.
Technically.
Laura’s life-insurance proceeds had been invested.
My engineering-management job paid well.
I had savings.
I might have refinanced part of the debt.
But rescuing Robert financially before understanding the fraud would have rewarded the exact behavior endangering the family property.
“I’ll help you find housing if necessary,” I said.
He laughed bitterly.
“My own son threatening to evict me.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“You don’t have to.”
The trust litigation would decide occupancy rights.
May you like
Not me alone.
That mattered.
