Chapter 9 - THE PLATE

Robert reported the plate incident.
I expected that.
I cooperated.
Witnesses confirmed I deliberately threw it.
Some also confirmed the confrontation and his statements about my children.
Context mattered.
It did not erase my conduct.
The matter resolved without some absurd prison sentence.
I accepted responsibility through the legal process available in the jurisdiction, paid associated costs, and completed an anger-management program voluntarily beyond what was required.
Rebecca asked why.
“Because Grandpa was mean.”
“Yes.”
“So why are you in trouble?”
“Because someone else being wrong doesn’t automatically make everything I do right.”
She absorbed that.
That lesson became unexpectedly important.
Accountability could not mean:
People I love get excuses.
May you like
People I hate get punishment.
If I wanted my parents held to standards, I had to accept standards too.
