The financial case ended in settlement before a full trial.
By then, enough had been established that everyone understood risk.
Linda agreed to reimburse a substantial portion of the trust surcharge through liquidation of investments and a structured payment arrangement.
Rachel agreed to her own smaller repayment.
Remaining claims against Carter Hospitality were resolved through its wind-down.
Some losses could not be recovered directly from the failed company.
The settlement accounted for that.
The professional trustee restored and managed the recovered funds for property purposes according to Walter’s instructions.
The trust would never return to the exact financial position it might have reached without misconduct.
But the negotiated recovery was substantial enough to preserve its purpose.
I did not receive a personal windfall.
The money remained governed by the trust.
That mattered.
The house was mine.
The trust supported the house.
Neither existed to punish Linda.
The deed was formally confirmed without further challenge.
No lien threatened my ownership.
No hidden mortgage appeared.
