Chapter 14 - The Form My Mother Gave Him

The original was a general fertility consent.
My goal was to prove how Nathan transformed it.
I had signed permission for standard donor procedures only if Mark’s sample failed testing.
Nothing about Noah Vale.
Nothing about posthumous sperm.
Nothing about inheritance.
Nathan photocopied the signature page, replaced the first page, and preserved the paper stock.
Sophisticated.
But traceable.
Mom admitted she removed a box of my medical records from Dad’s office after his death.
Nathan asked for copies.
He claimed they were needed to protect me from Mark.
Fear and secrecy again.
Then trial began.
The prosecution presented Caleb’s toxicology, the fake prescription, the black phone, the park recording, Dad’s blood sample, Noah’s revoked will, fertility records, Mark’s messages, and Amber’s cooperation agreement.
Nathan attacked every witness.
He painted Amber as unstable.
Mark as greedy.
Mom as forgetful.
Me as angry.
Then Lily testified by closed video.
“Grandpa Nathan told Mom Caleb had to sleep so Aunt Sarah would look bad.”
Nathan’s expression changed.
Lily called him Grandpa Nathan.
That exposed a relationship he had publicly denied.
Then she said she saw Nathan place clonidine tablets in Amber’s kitchen drawer the night before the park.
Direct physical evidence.
The state played Dad’s confrontation recording.
Dad:
“You used Noah’s sample without Sarah’s consent.”
Nathan:
“She’ll thank me when the estate opens.”
Dad:
“You killed your brother for that estate.”
Silence.
Nathan:
“Careful, Robert.”
Not denial.
Threat.
It looked like the major story was finally solved.
Then Nathan’s lawyer called Eleanor Vale.
She confessed she, not Nathan, had tampered with Noah’s brakes.
She said she wanted to frighten Noah, not kill him.
Nathan covered up her crime for twenty years.
That reversed the oldest assumption.
Nathan did not kill Noah.
He hid his mother’s role.
But Eleanor was not finished.
She looked at Amber.
“Nathan did kill Robert.”
Then she looked at me.

“And Robert knew Sarah was never supposed to be Caleb’s mother.”
The embryology log showed a last-minute patient switch.
