Chapter 15 - The Message Left Before The Betrayal

I opened the final file.

Inside was a letter.

Not from Vanessa.

Not from my father.

From someone I never expected.

My mother.

Written years earlier.

Before the stroke.

Before the mansion.

Before everything collapsed.

She had predicted that one day people would try to control our family through money.

She wrote that the only person she trusted to expose the truth was me.

Because I always believed actions mattered more than appearances.

I looked at Margaret.

She was crying.

“I wanted to tell you.”

I held her hand.

“I know.”

The room was finally quiet.

Vanessa.

My brother.

My father.

Everyone who had built their plans around secrets.

All of them exposed.

But then the last page slipped from the folder.

A page I hadn’t seen.

A page that wasn’t written by my mother.

It contained one sentence.

One name.

May you like

And a warning that made everyone in the room stop breathing.

“Daniel, your mother was never Vanessa’s target… you were.”
