Chapter 6 - The Bride Who Came Back

Ethan recovered first.

His face softened.

“Emma, this looks bad.”

She held up the forged agreement.

“It looks criminal.”

Rachel took one step backward.

Vanessa remained still.

Her glass hovered near her lips.

“Careful,” Vanessa said. “Accusations can ruin reputations.”

Emma looked directly at her.

“So can recordings.”

The color drained from Rachel’s face.

Ethan’s eyes dropped toward Emma’s hand.

She was holding only the paper.

The phone remained hidden in the folds of her gown.

He moved closer.

“Give me the document.”

“No.”

“Emma.”

“No.”

The word landed harder than a scream.

Ethan’s expression changed.

Not rage.

Calculation.

He reached for her wrist.

Emma stepped back.

“Touch me, and the hotel receives everything automatically.”

It was a bluff.

At least partly.

Her phone had uploaded the audio to cloud storage, but the hotel knew nothing.

Ethan did not know that.

His hand stopped.

Vanessa studied Emma with new attention.

“You’re not as naïve as you look.”

Emma swallowed the pain rising in her throat.

“I was naïve about him. Not about contracts.”

She unfolded the agreement.

“You forged my signature. But you made one mistake.”

Vanessa’s eyes narrowed.

Emma pointed to the property description.

“The trust owns the house. I don’t.”

Rachel stared at Ethan.

“You said she controlled it.”

“She does,” Ethan said.

Emma shook her head.

“I control decisions. I do not hold title personally. Any transfer requires approval from three trustees.”

Vanessa’s confidence flickered.

“Who are they?”

Emma folded the paper again.

“You’ll meet one soon.”

A phone rang inside the dressing room.

Ethan turned toward the sound.

Emma’s second phone.

He realized she had planted it.

He rushed toward the door.

Emma blocked him.

Rachel grabbed Emma’s arm.

The room exploded into movement.

Emma twisted free.

Rachel stumbled against the bed, one hand flying to her belly.

Ethan caught her.

For one second, his mask disappeared.

He held Rachel as if she were the only person in the room.

Emma saw it.

So did Vanessa.

And Rachel whispered the sentence that shattered the last illusion.

“Our son can’t lose everything because of her.”

Emma’s face went still.

Their son.

Not merely a pregnancy.

A planned family.
