Chapter 9 - The Mistress Began to Break

Emma stepped toward Rachel.

“How long has he been threatening you?”

Rachel covered the bruise.

Ethan laughed.

“Don’t do this.”

Rachel looked at him.

Her confidence was gone.

“You said if I left, you’d take the baby.”

Vanessa closed her eyes briefly.

That was confirmation enough.

Rachel’s words came faster.

“You said Emma would sign, you’d divorce her, and we’d start over.”

Ethan moved closer.

“Rachel, stop talking.”

Daniel signaled security.

One officer stepped between them.

Rachel began crying.

Not theatrically.

Quietly.

Like someone who had been holding fear inside for too long.

“I prepared the draft,” she admitted. “But Vanessa gave me the signature image. Ethan told me it was a prenuptial amendment Emma had already approved.”

Emma’s jaw tightened.

“You still knew he was married to me.”

Rachel nodded.

“I did.”

The admission hurt more than an excuse would have.

Rachel looked at Emma.

“I hated you before I met you. He told me you were cold. Spoiled. That you were using him. That you’d terminate my pregnancy if you found out.”

Emma stared at Ethan.

He had built different prisons for every woman.

To Vanessa, he promised money.

To Rachel, a family.

To Emma, love.

Vanessa suddenly grabbed the binder and headed for the fireplace.

Natalie blocked her.

Vanessa shoved her.

The hotel security officer caught Vanessa’s arm before she reached the flames.

“Let go of me!”

Her polish vanished.

Her voice rose.

Her champagne glass hit the carpet and shattered.

Ethan saw the chaos and moved toward the hallway.

The second officer stopped him.

“No one leaves.”

Ethan turned toward Emma.

“You think these people care about you?”

His voice was low and vicious.

“Your father cares about protecting his money. Natalie cares about revenge. Rachel cares about herself.”

He pointed to Emma’s gown.

“And you? You’re still the woman hiding under a bed because she was too weak to face the truth.”

The words struck exactly where he intended.

Emma went silent.

Then she walked up to him.

Close enough that he could see the tears in her eyes.

“I hid because I needed proof.”

She lifted her phone.

May you like

“I came out because I stopped being afraid of you.”

👉 Ethan had lost his escape—but he still possessed one final secret capable of turning Emma’s own father against her.
