Chapter 12 - Emma Was Finally Believed

Grant called a board meeting at Mercer Holdings.

Every executive who had heard rumors about Emma attended.

He stood at the head of the table.

“No phones.”

Everyone listened.

Grant placed copies of the verified records in front of them.

“For months before Emma died, several people described her as paranoid.”

Silence.

“I repeated that description.”

Grant swallowed.

“I was wrong.”

He explained only what could legally be disclosed.

Emma had identified financial irregularities.

She had been monitored.

Her private information had been accessed.

Her fears were grounded in fact.

Grant looked around the room.

“No one in this company will ever refer to my wife as unstable again.”

One executive shifted uncomfortably.

Grant continued.

“She discovered wrongdoing while the rest of us benefited from ignoring her.”

Afterward, Grant asked the company to establish an independent ethics and whistleblower office.

No family control.

No quiet settlements.

No reputation management overriding safety.

He named the initiative after Emma.

Tessa cried when he told her.

“She would hate the attention.”

Grant smiled.

“I know.”

“She’d say the name was too fancy.”

“I know.”

“She’d make you change the font.”

Grant laughed.

Noah clapped because everyone else was laughing.

The moment broke something open in Grant.

He picked up his son.

“You look like her.”

Tessa smiled.

“Especially when he’s judging you.”

Noah stared seriously at Grant.

Grant laughed again.

Months passed.

The house changed too.

Grant replaced the vase.

Then changed his mind.

He removed it entirely.

The living room where Vivienne attacked Noah stopped being preserved like a crime scene.

New rug.

Different table.

More toys.

Tessa asked:

“Trying to erase it?”

Grant shook his head.

“Trying to let this room belong to Noah again.”

That answer pleased her.

Grant also added more cameras.

Not because he wanted fear everywhere.

Because evidence had saved them once.

But he made one promise.

“No camera replaces listening.”

Tessa looked at him.

“That one matters.”

Grant nodded.

Then Noah took three shaky steps across the rug.

Grant and Tessa both froze.

He wobbled.

Stopped.

Then fell gently onto his bottom.

Tessa laughed.

Grant nearly cried.

Noah looked offended.

Then laughed too.

Emma had missed this.

That thought hurt.

But the moment still belonged to Noah.

Not grief.

Not Vivienne.

May you like

Noah.

👉 Emma’s truth had finally been restored, and Noah was beginning to grow beyond the day that almost defined him—but Grant still had to decide what Tessa truly meant to his family now.
