Chapter 2 - The Camera Did Not Lie

Grant watched the footage alone.

At first, there was silence.

Then Noah crawled toward a toy near the coffee table.

Vivienne entered.

Her expression changed the moment she noticed the baby.

Grant leaned closer to the screen.

He watched her move toward Noah.

Then the attack.

Grant stopped the video.

His hands shook.

He couldn’t continue for several seconds.

When he finally did, he watched Tessa rush forward.

Shield Noah.

Push Vivienne away.

Then fight back when Vivienne lunged again.

The entire confrontation lasted less than fifteen seconds.

But for Grant, it rearranged his life.

He walked back into the living room.

Vivienne stood beside the window.

Tessa sat with Noah while a paramedic examined him.

Grant looked at Vivienne.

“You attacked my son.”

She lifted her chin.

“She provoked me.”

Grant stared at her.

“Noah is one.”

“I didn’t mean—”

“You moved toward him deliberately.”

Vivienne’s face hardened.

“He shouldn’t even be here.”

The room went quiet.

Grant’s eyes narrowed.

“What did you say?”

Vivienne realized too late.

Tessa looked up.

Grant stepped closer.

“Why shouldn’t my son be in his own house?”

Vivienne recovered quickly.

“You know what I mean.”

“No.”

He shook his head.

“I don’t.”

Vivienne looked toward Tessa.

“She fills his head with nonsense about me.”

Grant laughed once.

Coldly.

“He’s twelve months old.”

Vivienne said nothing.

Tessa’s expression changed.

Grant noticed.

“What?”

Tessa hesitated.

“Nothing.”

“Tessa.”

She looked at Noah.

“Vivienne has said things when she thought nobody was listening.”

Grant turned.

“What things?”

Tessa swallowed.

“That Noah ruined everything.”

Vivienne’s eyes flashed.

Tessa continued.

“That if he hadn’t been born, you would have made a different choice.”

Grant stared at Vivienne.

“What choice?”

Nobody answered.

Then Grant remembered something.

Vivienne had known him before Noah was born.

Long before Tessa was hired.

Long before Claire—

Grant stopped.

His face changed.

There had been another woman.

Noah’s mother.

Emma.

Dead eleven months.

Vivienne had hated hearing her name.

Grant looked at Tessa.

“What did she say about Emma?”

Vivienne snapped:

“Enough.”

Grant turned slowly.

That one word told him there was more.

👉 Grant had always believed Vivienne resented Noah because of jealousy—but Tessa knew the jealousy began with Noah’s mother, and Emma had left behind something Vivienne desperately wanted hidden.
