Chapter 19 - The Confession Before Landing

Adam leaned toward Dakota while the crew completed the final cabin check.
“Please.”
She stopped beside his row.
His voice was barely audible.
“Delete the home-office recording.”
“No.”
“You don’t understand what it will do.”
“It will show what you did.”
“It will destroy my career.”
“You used my identity.”
“I can repay the money.”
“You tried to blame Trinity.”
“I panicked.”
“You planned this for months.”
His eyes filled.
Not with remorse.
With fear.
“If that recording reaches the board, they will discover the defense contracts.”
Dakota became still.
“What defense contracts?”
Adam looked toward Trinity, then the passengers.
He had said too much.
Dakota lowered her voice.
“What did you do?”
He shook his head.
“Nothing dangerous.”
“What contracts?”
“Some components did not meet the written specification.”
Trinity covered her mouth.
Dakota felt the scale of the crime expand again.
This was no longer only forged consulting payments and stolen corporate funds.
Adam had approved overpriced aircraft components that may not have met required standards.
“Were unsafe parts installed?”
“No. Not unsafe.”
“That is not an answer.”
He reached toward her hand.
Dakota stepped back.
“I can give you names,” he whispered. “I can help the company. But only if you say the recordings were misunderstood.”
“You are asking me to lie.”
“I am asking you to save what is left of our life.”
Dakota looked at the wedding band on his hand.
“Our life ended when you decided everyone who loved you was disposable.”
She walked away.
Adam stared at the floor as the plane touched down.
The passengers remained seated during the long taxi toward the gate.
No one spoke.
Through the window, several dark vehicles waited near the terminal.
Adam saw them.

His hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
👉 When the cabin door opened, Dakota had one final choice: walk away silently or make sure Adam could never rewrite what happened.
