Chapter 5 - Trinity’s Name on the Hotel

Trinity grabbed Adam’s wrist.
“What does she mean, an investigator?”
Adam pulled free.
“Corporate compliance people exaggerate everything.”
Dakota looked at Trinity’s boarding pass.
“Your full name is Trinity Vaughn?”
Trinity’s expression sharpened.
“Yes.”
“Have you ever worked as a consultant for Calderon Aerospace?”
“No.”
“Have you received money from Adam’s company?”
“Absolutely not.”
Adam interrupted.
“She doesn’t need to answer you.”
Dakota opened a folder on her service tablet.
No confidential details were visible to the passengers, but Adam recognized the document layout.
Vendor reimbursement forms.
He leaned forward.
“Put that away.”
Dakota turned the screen toward Trinity for less than a second.
At the top appeared the name Vaughn Global Hospitality.
Trinity stared.
“That’s not my company.”
Adam’s voice hardened.
“It was set up for tax purposes.”
“For whose taxes?”
“Ours.”
Trinity recoiled.
“There is no ‘ours.’ You told me we would discuss finances after the baby was born.”
Dakota studied her face.
The arrogance Trinity had displayed during boarding was disappearing.
In its place came genuine fear.
“Did Adam ask you to send him photographs of your driver’s license?” Dakota asked.
Trinity’s fingers tightened around her handbag.
“He said he needed it to add me to the hotel reservation.”
Adam whispered, “Stop talking.”
Trinity looked at him.
“What did you do with my ID?”
Dakota answered quietly.
“He used it to create a vendor profile.”
Adam slammed his palm against the armrest.
“That is speculation.”
Dakota remained still.
“No. Speculation was believing my husband was merely cheating.”
She lowered the tablet.
“The documents show payments made under Trinity’s name.”
Trinity’s face turned white.
“I never received any payments.”
“Then someone else did.”
