Chapter 6 - The Woman He Selected

Trinity unfastened her seat belt.
“I need to move.”
A flight attendant approached.
“Please remain seated while the seat-belt sign is illuminated.”
“I cannot sit next to him.”
Dakota glanced toward an empty seat across the aisle.
After confirming with the purser, Trinity was moved.
Adam watched her leave.
“You planned this,” he said to Dakota.
“No.”
“You arranged this flight.”
“I traded assignments after I saw the passenger list.”
His eyes widened.
Flight crews received passenger information before boarding.
When Dakota saw Adam’s name, she had assumed it was a coincidence.
Then she saw Trinity Vaughn beside him.
The same name that appeared in the suspicious vendor file.
Dakota contacted the company investigator before boarding.
He instructed her not to reveal sensitive details or interfere with the flight.
But he also told her something she had not expected.
Trinity might not know her identity had been used.
Dakota had boarded prepared to despise the pregnant woman.
Then she saw Trinity’s genuine confusion.
Now Trinity sat across the aisle, shaking.
“How did you meet him?” Dakota asked.
Trinity swallowed.
“At a charity gala eight months ago.”
Adam stared at the window.
“Did he approach you?”
“Yes.”
“What did he ask about?”
“My family. My job. Whether I had ever owned a business.”
Trinity’s voice became quieter.
“I thought he was interested in me.”
Dakota felt a cold ache beneath her ribs.
“He was collecting information.”
Adam turned sharply.
“That’s enough.”
Trinity ignored him.
“He said his marriage was over. He said you had cheated first.”
Dakota’s face barely changed.
But Adam saw the wound.
“That is a lie,” she said.
Trinity looked ashamed.
“He showed me messages.”
Dakota knew immediately.
“What messages?”
“Screenshots between you and another man.”
Dakota closed her eyes for one second.
Adam had not merely betrayed her.

He had manufactured a reason to make Trinity feel justified.
👉 Dakota asked Trinity to describe the man in the fake messages—and the answer exposed someone else inside Adam’s company.
