Chapter 5 - TWO HUSBANDS WITH ONE FACE

DNA confirmed Garrett and Grant were identical twins.

Vivian raised Garrett publicly as heir to Andrews Development.

Grant grew up inside private institutions where he learned surveillance, forgery, and identity substitution.

Whenever Garrett needed an alibi, Grant became him.

Whenever a woman reported violence, the brothers created uncertainty.

Which man entered the room?

Which man signed the document?

Which man stood on the balcony?

The chandelier camera clearly showed Garrett’s face.

But facial recognition could not separate twins.

The body-language expert identified the man as likely Garrett based on his injured left knee.

The attacker moved without a limp.

Grant had no knee injury.

The man who pushed me might have been Grant.

The husband who entered the ICU was definitely Garrett; officers confirmed the scar on his wrist.

For years, I may have lived with both.

I remembered nights when Garrett’s scent changed.

Conversations he denied.

A small scar appearing and disappearing near his chin.

I blamed stress.

They used my uncertainty as proof I was unwell.

Caroline said the same pattern happened to her.

One brother apologized.

The other punished.

She never knew which one promised love.

Hayes obtained warrants for every Andrews property.

Grant’s apartment contained photographs of me, Caroline, and six other women.

Each file listed emotional triggers, medication history, family weaknesses, and financial value.

We had been studied as investments.

My file contained one phrase underlined twice.

RESPONDS TO GUILT. WILL PROTECT PARENTS.

Garrett had threatened my mother whenever I resisted.

Vivian had threatened Caroline’s imagined abandonment wound.

Each woman received a custom cage.

Then Grant contacted Rebecca.

He wanted immunity in exchange for Caroline and Vivian.

Rebecca refused blanket protection.

He offered proof that Garrett ordered my fall.

A recording showed the twins arguing.

Garrett said, “Scare her.”

Grant replied, “You know I don’t stop when they fight.”

Garrett answered, “That’s why I sent you.”

The push belonged to Grant.

The intent belonged to both.

Garrett had arranged the assault while preserving distance.

Grant refused to reveal Caroline’s location until prosecutors guaranteed he would not face attempted-murder charges.

Rebecca ended the call.

Minutes later, a courier delivered a box to the ICU.

Inside was Caroline’s wedding ring and a live phone.

Grant appeared on-screen.

Behind him, Caroline sat restrained in a hospital chair.

Vivian stood beside her.

Grant looked directly at me.

“Your husband wants me blamed for everything.”

“He sent you.”

“He always sends me.”

“That doesn’t erase your choices.”

His expression tightened.

No one had ever allowed him to be more than Garrett’s instrument.

But explanation was not innocence.

Grant ended the call after giving one clue.

A white chapel window behind Caroline.

My father recognized it.

The old Pierce family hospital.

A building my grandmother founded and Vivian later purchased.

My mother’s family had not simply become victims of the Andrews system.

They had helped create the first facility.
