Chapter 7 - THE LAWYER’S SIGNATURE

Rebecca admitted witnessing the original estate amendment as a junior associate.
She denied changing the date.
The handwriting matched because someone copied her signature from the old file.
Her former law firm represented Vivian Andrews.
Rebecca had left after discovering guardianship fraud.
She became my lawyer years later without telling me the connection.
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I needed access to the family records.”
“You used me as a case.”
“I tried to protect you.”
The phrase had lost all comfort.
Rebecca accepted removal as my attorney pending independent review.
She handed the evidence bag to federal prosecutor Lena Ortiz.
Another woman took the position beside the door.
No secret continuity.
No hidden authority.
Everything documented.
Ortiz reopened Rebecca’s former cases.
She found that Rebecca had quietly helped three women escape Vale guardianships.
She had also delayed reporting some evidence to build stronger prosecutions.
One woman died during that delay.
Good intentions did not erase consequences.
Rebecca agreed to testify and face professional review.
The investigation traced the forged trust amendment to Judge Malcolm Andrews’s chambers.
His clerk copied Rebecca’s signature.
The judge approved my incompetency petition before the gala.
He had already assigned Garrett control over my medical care.
The court order became active the moment Dr. Vale documented “self-inflicted injury.”
Every institution was ready before my fall.
Then my condition worsened.
The monitor showed an irregular rhythm.
Dr. Evelyn Reed examined my IV and found a tiny puncture in the tubing.
Someone had injected a cardiac medication through the line.
The ICU attack had not ended when officers restrained Garrett.
Another person inside the room had already prepared my death.
Security footage showed everyone entering.
Garrett.
My parents.
Rebecca.
Two officers.
The lawyer.
Medical staff.
No stranger.
The evidence suggested someone standing in the room poisoned the IV before Garrett lunged.
The sealed camera had watched us all.
Hayes reviewed the footage from the hidden vent device.
My father approached the IV while everyone watched Garrett.
His hand disappeared behind the pump.
My mother stared at the screen.
“No.”
Father looked terrified.
“I adjusted the blanket.”
The video angle could not prove injection.
Police searched his pockets.
They found an empty medication vial.
My father insisted he had never seen it.
Someone planted it.
But who?
My mother stepped away from him.
Caroline watched through the glass.
Garrett smiled from custody when detectives told him.
The family had turned suspicion toward the quietest person in the room.
Then the hospital laboratory identified the medication lot.
It came from Dr. Reed’s private cabinet.
The access log showed Rebecca Sloan’s badge.
Rebecca had never been issued a hospital badge.
Someone created one using her identity.
The person poisoning me wanted to frame both my father and my lawyer.
Only one person understood every relationship well enough.
Eleanor Pierce.

My aunt had not disappeared after helping me.
She was still controlling the board.
