Chapter 15 - The Drawer in Carolina’s Dressing Room
Bonnie remembered seeing a locked drawer in Carolina’s dressing room.
Her daughter claimed it contained jewelry.
But Bonnie once saw medical letterhead inside.
With Mara’s guidance and Sawyer’s permission as co-owner, a technician documented the damaged house before anything was touched.
Inside the drawer, they found copies of counseling reports.
The therapist’s name was real.
The appointments were not.
Carolina had created false records describing Gracie as violent, manipulative, and dangerous to herself.
One page claimed Gracie struck her mother repeatedly.
Another claimed Sawyer refused to accept his daughter’s condition.
The reports were designed to make Carolina appear like a frightened mother seeking help.
Bonnie sat on the edge of the bed.
“She planned every word.”
Mara photographed each document.
Then she found something beneath them.
A notebook.
Carolina had recorded dates, punishments, and explanations to use if anyone questioned Gracie’s injuries.
Bruise on arm — playground.
Cut on knee — bicycle.
Missing dinner — stomachache.
Locked door — child requested privacy.
The final entry was dated that night.
Back injury — slipped carrying bowl after refusing directions.
Bonnie closed her eyes.
“She wrote the lie before it happened.”
Sawyer read the page in silence.
Carolina had not lost control unexpectedly.
She had staged an incident, predicted the injury, and prepared the explanation.
At the bottom of the page was one additional line:
If neighbor footage exists, claim Sawyer manipulated it.
Mara looked at him.
“She knew about Daniel’s camera.”
Sawyer thought back to Carolina’s panic at the gate.
“She didn’t know what angle it had.”
Daniel called.
His attorney had approved a private viewing.
