Chapter 6 - The Camera Above the Door

Sawyer moved before Carolina reached the threshold.
He stepped into her path without touching her.
“Move,” she demanded.
“No.”
“It’s my house too.”
“You’re trying to destroy evidence.”
Her face tightened.
“That camera stopped working months ago.”
Bonnie looked up at it.
“The indicator light is on.”
Carolina’s eyes flashed with rage.
“You don’t understand technology, Mom.”
“I understand when you’re lying.”
Carolina turned toward the side entrance.
Sawyer blocked that route as well.
Behind him, Gracie watched from the car.
He refused to start a physical struggle in front of her.
Instead, he pulled the house keys from his pocket and remotely activated the alarm system.
The doors locked.
Carolina stared at him.
“You locked me out?”
“I locked everyone out until the footage is preserved.”
“It belongs to us.”
“It may show how Gracie was injured.”
Carolina’s breathing became shallow.
Then her expression changed.
She began to cry.
Not quietly.
The tears arrived with theatrical force.
“I have been alone for five days, trying to control a child who hates me while you stayed in hotels and ignored this family.”
Sawyer did not respond.
“You always believe her,” Carolina continued. “You make me the villain.”
Bonnie looked at her daughter with growing horror.
“Why would your own child hate you?”
Carolina wiped her face.
“Because Sawyer spoils her.”
From the neighboring gate, the man called, “Mr. Cole, I backed up my recording.”
Carolina spun toward him.
“You recorded private property?”
The neighbor raised his phone higher.
“No. My camera recorded your patio.”
May you like
Carolina’s tears stopped instantly.
👉 And when the neighbor named the exact time of the incident, Gracie whispered that Carolina had lied about when the “fall” happened.
