Chapter 10 - The Mistress Who Wasn’t Loyal
Marissa arrived in a gray sedan twenty minutes later.
She had been summoned by Kenton.
She believed she was coming to help him.
Instead, she found Isaac, Amber, Tessa, investigators, and several cameras from local news crews gathering across the street.
Kenton pulled her aside.
“Tell them Amber authorized the licenses.”
Marissa’s face changed.
“She didn’t.”
Kenton stared at her.
“What?”
“You told me she did.”
“Stick to that.”
“Kenton, they have the applications.”
“So?”
“So my handwriting is on the attendance forms.”
“Then say she asked you to attend.”
Marissa stepped back.
“You want me to take the blame.”
“I made your career.”
“You used me.”
“You approved every expansion.”
“Because you promised we would be married.”
Amber heard enough.
She looked at the woman who had entered her home and helped erase her name.
Marissa noticed.
For one second, shame crossed her face.
Then fear replaced it.
Kenton lowered his voice.
“Do not fall apart now.”
Marissa laughed bitterly.
“You already divorced her. Why are you chasing her?”
Kenton looked toward Amber’s ring.
“Because she belongs to me.”
Amber turned immediately.
“I never belonged to you.”
Isaac’s jaw tightened.
But he let Amber speak for herself.
Marissa stared at Kenton.
“You said she was nothing.”
“That is not what I meant.”
“You said the triplets were a burden.”
Amber’s blood went cold.
Kenton’s eyes widened.
“Stop talking.”
Marissa continued.
“You said once the divorce was finished, you would make sure she lost custody because she couldn’t afford three babies.”
Amber’s face became still.
Isaac moved closer to her but did not touch her.
Kenton grabbed Marissa’s arm.
She ripped free.
“Don’t touch me.”
One investigator stepped from the sedan.
Kenton released her instantly.
Marissa looked at Amber.
“I have messages.”
Kenton shouted.
“No, you don’t.”
“I saved everything.”
“You deleted them.”
“I backed them up.”
Tessa opened the folder and removed an evidence receipt.
“We already have a copy.”
Kenton stared at her.
“When?”
“Before court.”
Marissa’s messages showed Kenton directing her to impersonate Amber during compliance training.
They showed him planning to move liabilities into the triplet trusts.
They showed him promising Marissa the marital home after Amber was removed.
But none contained the final signed instruction.
Kenton had given the most dangerous orders verbally.
