Chapter 16 - The Night the Triplets Came

Amber’s first contraction lasted forty seconds.

The second came six minutes later.

Isaac drove while one security man called the hospital.

Tessa followed with the evidence.

Amber gripped the seat belt.

“Not yet.”

Isaac kept his voice calm.

“They are thirty-two weeks.”

“I know.”

“They have a strong neonatal team.”

“I know.”

But fear broke through her control.

Three babies.

Too early.

Months of stress.

A courthouse confrontation.

A husband who had treated their lives like business assets.

Isaac reached toward her hand.

He stopped before touching.

Amber grabbed his fingers.

“Don’t let Kenton in.”

“He won’t get near you.”

At the hospital, doctors moved quickly.

One baby was head down.

Two were not.

A cesarean delivery was recommended.

Amber signed.

The nurse asked who had medical decision authority if Amber became unconscious.

Amber named Isaac.

Then she added Tessa as secondary.

Not Kenton.

Kenton arrived thirty minutes later.

Hospital security stopped him outside maternity.

“I am the father.”

A nurse answered calmly.

“You are not authorized to enter.”

“My children are being born.”

“The patient made her decision.”

Kenton shouted Amber’s name through the secured doors.

Isaac stepped into the hallway.

Kenton glared at him.

“You took my wife and now you’re taking my children.”

Isaac remained calm.

“You gave up the right to speak about taking.”

“They are biologically mine.”

“That gives you legal responsibilities. Not ownership.”

Kenton’s jaw tightened.

“I need to see her.”

“No.”

“You don’t decide.”

“Amber did.”

Inside the operating room, Amber began shaking.

The doctor reassured her.

The first baby arrived.

A girl.

Small but crying.

Then a boy.

He needed breathing support.

The third baby took longer.

Another girl.

Silent for one unbearable second.

Then she cried.

Amber wept.

Isaac stood beside her head.

“They’re here.”

“Are they okay?”

“The doctors are working.”

The babies were taken to neonatal intensive care.

Amber remained stable.

Outside, Kenton received the news from a social worker.

He sat down against the hallway wall.

For one brief moment, all arrogance disappeared.

He looked like a frightened father.

Then his attorney called.

The licensing board had suspended every credential connected to his name.

The sale had collapsed.

The foreign buyers were suing.

The bank was freezing his personal assets.

Kenton looked through the maternity doors.

He had lost the empire.

But he still believed the babies could save him.

👉 Kenton filed an emergency custody petition before Amber had even left recovery.
