Chapter 5 - The Investor Who Already Knew Her Name

Amber met Isaac in a private conference room overlooking downtown Columbus.
He arrived without an entourage.
No assistants.
No expensive performance.
Only a black folder and a calm expression.
“You are Amber Hartwell,” he said.
“Kenton’s wife.”
“Not for much longer.”
Isaac studied her.
“I heard.”
Amber placed the forged licensing documents on the table.
“My identity was used to build the company you financed.”
“I know.”
She stared at him.
“How long?”
“Three weeks.”
“Then why haven’t you stopped funding him?”
“Because if I withdraw without proof, Kenton will move the assets.”
Amber’s jaw tightened.
“You are using him.”
“I am containing him.”
“That sounds better.”
“It is not meant to.”
Isaac opened his folder.
Inside were payment records between Kenton, Marissa, and several licensing consultants.
Amber’s name appeared beside each application.
“He paid people to complete renewals under your identity,” Isaac said.
“I can see that.”
“There is more.”
He handed her an older corporate document.
Vale Capital’s first loan to Kenton’s company required a licensed compliance officer to guarantee operations.
Amber’s signature appeared at the bottom.
She had never seen the agreement.
“That isn’t mine.”
“I believed it was.”
“So you financed him because of me.”
“Yes.”
The word landed heavily.
Isaac had invested because Amber’s qualifications gave the company legitimacy.
Kenton had accepted praise for securing billionaire funding.
But the funding existed only because he secretly used his wife.
Amber leaned back.
“What happens if the truth becomes public?”
“The loans can be recalled.”
“The company collapses?”
“Probably.”
“And the employees?”
Isaac noticed the question.
Kenton had never asked about them.
“Protected subsidiaries can survive if ownership changes.”
“To whom?”
“That depends on the legitimate license holder.”
Amber looked at him.
“You mean me.”
“I mean the person Kenton erased.”
For the first time since learning the truth, Amber felt something other than grief.
Power.
Not wealth.
Not revenge.
The power of finally understanding what had been taken from her.
Isaac closed the folder.
“I can help you expose him.”
“What do you want?”
“Accuracy.”
“No one with billions wants only accuracy.”
Isaac’s expression barely changed.
“My father lost a company because a partner used forged compliance records. Hundreds of people lost their jobs.”
Amber studied him.
“So this is personal.”
“Yes.”
“But not because of me.”
“Not yet.”
The answer unsettled her.
She stood carefully.
Isaac immediately moved her chair without touching her.
“Your divorce hearing is in six months,” he said.
“Kenton wants it faster.”
“Let him.”
Amber frowned.
Isaac continued.

“The more he believes he is winning, the less carefully he will hide the evidence.”
👉 Isaac’s plan required Amber to let Kenton humiliate her publicly—but it also meant trusting a man she barely knew with the lives of her unborn children.
