Chapter 15 - The Offer No Mother Could Accept

Kenton requested a private meeting.
Amber refused.
He requested mediation.
She refused again.
Then he sent a written offer.
One hundred million dollars.
A paid home.
Lifetime medical care.
Full custody of the triplets.
In exchange, Amber would sign the compliance acknowledgment and remain silent about the licensing fraud.
Isaac read the offer once.
Then placed it on the table.
Amber stared at the custody clause.
“He is offering me custody of my own children.”
“He believes everything has a price,” Isaac said.
Amber looked at him.
“Did you ever think that?”
“No.”
“Not even when you first met me?”
“I thought you were the key to protecting my investment.”
The honesty surprised her.
Isaac continued.
“Then I watched you ask about employees before asking what you would receive.”
Amber’s eyes softened.
“When did that change things?”
“The first day.”
She folded Kenton’s offer.
“I want to answer him.”
Tessa advised against direct contact.
Amber insisted.
They met in a monitored conference room.
Kenton arrived without a lawyer.
He looked exhausted.
His suit no longer fit neatly.
His confidence had become desperation.
“You saw the offer,” he said.
“Yes.”
“You can raise the children anywhere.”
“They are not bargaining chips.”
“I am giving you everything you wanted.”
“You never asked what I wanted.”
“A family.”
“I wanted a husband who did not use our children as debt shelters.”
Kenton leaned forward.
“If the sale fails, thousands of people could lose their jobs.”
“The restructuring protects them.”
“Isaac controls the restructuring.”
“No. Independent trustees do.”
“You believe him?”
“I believe documents.”
Kenton’s face tightened.
“Sign the page.”
“No.”
“Then the company dies.”
“No. You lose the money.”
His fist struck the table.
Not near Amber.
Still enough to make the security guard step forward.
Kenton pulled himself back.
“I built that company.”
“With my name.”
“I made it valuable.”
“With fraud.”
“You enjoyed the lifestyle.”
“I paid for it with work you called useless.”
His eyes filled with rage.
Then something uglier.
“If you refuse, I’ll release the paternity test.”
Amber stared at him.
“It confirms you are the father.”
“I will alter it.”
The room went completely silent.
Kenton realized too late that the meeting was recorded.
Tessa stepped through the side door.
“Thank you.”
Kenton turned.
Amber remained seated.
“You just threatened to falsify medical evidence against your own children.”
His face collapsed.
The final piece was no longer hidden.

He had admitted intent.
👉 Kenton’s threat destroyed his defense—but before regulators could act, Amber’s contractions began six weeks early.
