Chapter 4 - Why Madison Sent the Video

Madison arrived at the hospital through a service entrance two hours after the surgery.

Diane met her in a private consultation room.

Madison was thirty-two, blonde, polished, and still wearing the cream dress from the country-club celebration.

There was frosting on one cuff.

Diane hated her on sight.

“You kissed my daughter’s husband while she was fighting for her babies.”

Madison did not defend herself.

“Yes.”

“And now you expect us to trust you?”

“No.”

Madison placed a laptop on the table.

“I expect you to look at what I found.”

She explained that Mark had approached her company six months earlier.

He claimed Emily suffered from severe anxiety and had asked him to prepare emergency family documents before the triplets were born.

Madison’s company specialized in estate organization, not legal representation.

Mark provided copies of Emily’s identification, medical information, and digital signature.

He said Emily was too unwell to attend meetings.

Madison believed him.

At first.

Their affair began two months later.

Mark told Madison the marriage was effectively over.

He promised that once the babies were born safely, he would file for divorce.

The country-club party was supposed to celebrate Mark and Madison purchasing a home together.

Madison’s friends believed it was an engagement.

Then, the night before the party, Madison found a hidden folder on Mark’s laptop.

It contained the forged custody document.

Three passport applications.

A transfer of money from Emily’s inheritance.

And a draft obituary.

Diane stared at her.

“An obituary?”

Madison nodded.

It was written as if Emily had died from complications during childbirth.

The draft praised Mark as a grieving father raising triplets alone.

The date line was blank.

Madison confronted him.

Mark claimed it was only a public-relations contingency prepared because the pregnancy was dangerous.

She pretended to believe him.

Then she copied everything.

At the country club, she watched Mark ignore repeated hospital calls.

That was when she sent Emily the video and documents.

“Why include the video?” Diane asked.

Madison’s eyes filled with shame.

“Because I knew she might forgive the paperwork if he lied well enough. I needed her to see exactly who he was.”

It was cruel.

But it worked.

Emily understood immediately that Mark had built an entirely separate future.

Madison handed Diane a flash drive.

“Everything is here.”

Then she revealed the worst part.

Mark had arranged for a private medical transport team to collect the babies that evening.

👉 Mark was not returning to visit his children—he was returning to remove them before Emily woke up.
