Chapter 5 - The Private Transport Team
The transport authorization carried Emily’s forged signature.
It directed the hospital to move all three babies to a private neonatal facility in New York.
The facility existed.
The transfer order did not.
Lauren alerted the hospital administrator and security.
The NICU was placed under restricted access.
Every staff member received Mark’s photograph.
Diane remained beside the bassinets while Emily recovered.
The babies were small but stable.
Baby A had Mark’s dark hair.
Baby B curled his fingers around Diane’s thumb.
The girl opened her eyes for only seconds.
Emily had not yet held any of them.
Diane looked through the NICU glass and promised they would still be there when their mother woke.
At 4:10 p.m., the private transport team arrived.
Two paramedics presented professional identification and electronic paperwork.
The documents looked authentic.
But Lauren called the facility directly.
No transfer had been scheduled.
The men insisted Mark had arranged it privately.
Hospital security detained them until police arrived.
One paramedic immediately admitted that they had been hired through an outside coordinator.
The coordinator used Madison’s business email address.
Madison denied sending it.
Someone had accessed her company account.
The login came from Mark’s country-club tablet.
The timeline became clear.
Mark attended the celebration.
Ignored the hospital calls.
Used Madison’s credentials to create the transfer.
Then drove toward the hospital believing the babies would already be prepared to leave.
Diane wanted him arrested the moment he entered.
Thomas advised patience.
“We need to know what he believes he can legally do.”
Emily regained consciousness shortly before five.
Her first words were not about Mark.
“My babies?”
Diane showed her three blurred photographs taken by a NICU nurse.
“They’re safe.”
Emily cried silently.
Then she asked where Mark was.
“On his way.”
Fear moved across her face.
Diane held her hand.
“You don’t have to see him.”
Emily looked toward the NICU corridor.
“No. I need him to believe I’m still here.”
Thomas had already arranged emergency protection.
But Mark could not know that yet.
Emily made a decision.
She would leave the hospital through a private route.
The babies would be transferred legally to another protected unit under sealed records.
The empty bassinets would remain visible.
