Chapter 11 - The Test Trevor Hid

Rebecca demanded an immediate paternity test.

Trevor refused from jail.

His attorney argued the request was irrelevant to the criminal case.

Sarah obtained a court order.

The laboratory collected Trevor’s DNA under supervision.

Rebecca’s obstetrician used a noninvasive prenatal blood test.

The results arrived forty-eight hours later.

Trevor was not the biological father.

Rebecca read the report in silence.

She had never been unfaithful.

There was no other possible father.

Her doctor reviewed the fertility records.

Rebecca and Trevor had undergone treatment after struggling to conceive.

Trevor told her the clinic used his frozen sample.

The records listed Trevor as the donor.

But the identification number had been altered.

The original file was stored at a private laboratory owned by Northstar.

Detective Ruiz searched the facility.

Inside a locked freezer, investigators found remaining genetic material under the same identification number.

The donor’s name was Daniel Samuel Grant.

Rebecca stared at Daniel across the police conference room.

He looked horrified.

“I never agreed to this.”

He explained that years earlier, he donated genetic material during treatment with his late wife.

The clinic said unused samples would be destroyed.

Northstar later purchased the facility.

Trevor obtained access.

Rebecca’s baby was biologically Daniel’s child.

She stood so quickly the chair scraped across the floor.

“You knew?”

“No.”

“Richard named you trustee.”

“Because I was his brother.”

“Did he know about the embryo?”

Daniel shook his head.

“I don’t know.”

Rebecca moved away from him.

Every relationship around her had become tied to a secret.

Daniel had saved her in the garage.

He had protected her.

But now his biology connected him to the child Linda wanted to control.

Sarah studied the trust language.

The document did not require Trevor to be the father.

It transferred ownership to Richard’s first biological grandchild.

Daniel was Richard’s half brother, not his son.

His child would not qualify.

Unless another fact had been hidden.

Detective Ruiz returned to Richard’s family records.

Daniel’s birth certificate named a different father.

But an old letter from Richard’s mother suggested Richard’s father had an affair with Daniel’s mother.

A DNA comparison was ordered using Richard’s medical sample.

The result showed Richard and Daniel were not brothers.

They were father and son.

Daniel went pale.

“My mother told me he was my brother.”

Richard had fathered Daniel at eighteen, and the family concealed it to avoid scandal.

That made Daniel Richard’s biological child.

Rebecca’s unborn baby was Richard’s grandchild.

The trust was valid.

Trevor had stolen Daniel’s genetic material specifically to create an heir he could control.

He married Rebecca because she was healthy, trusting, and had no powerful family.

Rebecca felt violated in a way she could barely name.

Trevor had selected the father of her baby without her consent.

He had selected her pregnancy for money.

A call came from the jail.

Trevor requested to speak with Rebecca.

She accepted only with police recording.

“You know now,” he said.

“You used Daniel’s embryo.”

“I created a legitimate heir.”

“You assaulted me through a medical procedure.”

“I gave you the child you wanted.”

Rebecca’s voice remained steady.

“You never gave me anything. You stole from all of us.”

Trevor laughed.

“Ask Daniel why Richard hid the truth. Ask him what happens if he claims the baby.”

Then he hung up.

Sarah checked the trust again.

If Daniel formally established paternity, he could petition to control the child’s inheritance.

Rebecca turned toward him.

Daniel looked devastated.

“I will never take your baby from you.”

Before she could answer, police received an alert.

Daniel had just been named in a petition requesting emergency custody of Rebecca’s unborn child.

The petition carried his electronic signature.

He had not filed it.

👉 Someone was forging Daniel’s identity to make Rebecca believe even her rescuer wanted control of her baby.
