Chapter 6 - The Hearing Trevor Thought He Owned
Rebecca entered court in a wheelchair the next morning.
She wore the same gray sweatshirt from the garage because she refused to let Trevor’s attorneys dress her story in polished lies.
Trevor sat across the aisle in an expensive navy suit.
Linda sat behind him.
Neither looked frightened.
Their confidence made Rebecca uneasy.
Judge Marcus Ellison reviewed Trevor’s emergency petition.
Trevor’s attorney presented medical reports claiming Rebecca suffered delusions, refused treatment, and endangered the fetus.
All three reports were signed by Dr. Calvin Moore.
The same physician who prescribed the altered pills.
Sarah stood.
“Dr. Moore has never examined my client in person.”
Trevor’s attorney smiled.
“He conducted remote consultations.”
Rebecca shook her head.
“No, he didn’t.”
The judge called Dr. Moore by video.
He testified that Rebecca exhibited paranoia and irrational suspicion toward her husband.
Sarah asked him to identify the date of their first consultation.
He gave a date when Rebecca was visiting her mother in another state.
Then Sarah produced travel records and hospital logs.
Dr. Moore hesitated.
Trevor looked toward Linda.
For the first time, she appeared irritated.
Sarah placed the fake nurse’s syringe report into evidence.
“The drug inside was prescribed through Dr. Moore’s account.”
The judge turned toward the screen.
“Doctor?”
The video connection ended.
Dr. Moore had disconnected.
Judge Ellison immediately denied Trevor’s guardianship request and ordered an investigation into the medical reports.
Trevor rose.
“This court is risking my child’s life.”
Rebecca looked directly at him.
“You never cared about the baby’s life.”
He turned toward her.
“Be careful.”
The bailiff stepped between them.
Then the courtroom doors opened.
Daniel entered carrying a metal case.
His face was bruised.
Blood stained his collar.
Detective Ruiz walked beside him.
“What happened?” Rebecca asked.
“Someone followed us to the cabin.”
They had been forced off the road.
Two masked men tried to take the case.
Daniel fought them while Ruiz called for backup.
One attacker escaped.
The other was arrested.
Inside the metal case were Richard’s original trust documents, pension records, and a video recording made four days before his supposed death.
Richard appeared weak but mentally clear.
“If this message is being played, Trevor or Linda has tried to seize control from Rebecca.”
He explained every transfer.
He confirmed Rebecca had unknowingly signed routine property forms later altered by Trevor.
Then he looked into the camera.
“My son believes I am dead.”
The courtroom went silent.
Rebecca stopped breathing.
Richard continued.
“I am not.”
Linda stood so quickly her chair fell backward.
Trevor stared at the screen.
Richard named the private rehabilitation facility where Daniel had hidden him after Linda’s poisoning attempt.
The judge ordered immediate police protection for the facility.
Detective Ruiz’s phone rang before the video finished.
She listened.
Then she looked at Rebecca.
The facility had been attacked during the hearing.
