Chapter 8 - The Factory Where It Began

Detective Ruiz told Rebecca not to go.

Rebecca agreed.

Then they built a plan around making Trevor believe she had ignored that advice.

She wore a hidden microphone beneath her sweatshirt.

Daniel placed a tracker inside the folder of copied trust documents.

Police tactical teams surrounded the abandoned Northstar factory from a distance.

The building had once produced electrical components.

Richard founded the company there forty years earlier.

Now the broken windows reflected lightning.

Rebecca entered through the loading bay.

“Trevor?”

A spotlight turned on.

Richard sat tied to a chair in the center of the factory floor.

Trevor stood behind him holding a gun.

Linda watched from an elevated office platform.

She had been released after questioning because prosecutors lacked enough evidence to hold her.

“You brought police,” Trevor said.

“No.”

“You’re a terrible liar.”

He searched Rebecca and found no phone.

The microphone remained hidden.

Rebecca placed the folder on a metal table.

“Let Richard go.”

Trevor opened the documents.

“These are copies.”

“The originals are with my attorney.”

His face tightened.

“You were supposed to trust me.”

Rebecca almost laughed.

“You locked me in a garage with gasoline.”

“That was theater.”

Richard lifted his head.

His face was bruised, but his eyes were clear.

“Trevor has always confused terror with respect.”

Trevor struck him.

Rebecca stepped forward.

“Stop!”

Linda came down the metal stairs.

“You should have signed when we first asked.”

“Why did you poison Richard?”

Linda’s expression remained cold.

“He was giving away what we built.”

“You mean what he built.”

“I protected this family while he made sentimental decisions.”

Rebecca kept her talking.

She needed enough evidence to connect Linda to the poisoning.

Richard looked toward Rebecca.

“Ask her about Caroline.”

Linda froze.

Rebecca had never heard the name.

“Who is Caroline?”

Trevor looked at his mother.

“Don’t.”

Richard answered.

“Trevor had a sister.”

Linda’s face changed.

Caroline Hale died at twenty-four in what the family called a boating accident.

Richard said she had discovered the pension theft years earlier.

She threatened to report Trevor.

The night before she could speak to federal investigators, she disappeared.

Linda claimed Caroline drowned.

No body was found.

Rebecca looked at Linda.

“You helped Trevor kill your own daughter?”

Linda slapped her.

“Caroline was weak.”

Richard closed his eyes.

“She was brave.”

Police moved closer outside.

A loose sheet of metal shifted in the wind.

Trevor heard it.

He grabbed Rebecca and pressed the gun against her stomach.

“You brought them.”

Linda reached for the folder.

Richard kicked the table.

The tracker fell onto the floor.

Trevor saw it blinking.

He fired toward the ceiling.

“Everybody out!”

Police stormed the loading bay.

Linda ran toward a side exit with the documents.

Trevor dragged Rebecca deeper into the factory.

Richard shouted after them.

“Rebecca, the blue furnace room!”

Trevor’s grip tightened.

“What did he tell you?”

“I don’t know.”

But Trevor clearly did.

May you like

His face filled with panic.

👉 Richard had hidden evidence about Caroline inside the factory, and Trevor was willing to kill Rebecca before she reached it.
