Chapter 18 - The Truth Eleanor Buried

The boardroom was full by nine the next morning.
Michael attended by video with his attorneys.
He wore a dark suit and the expression of a man who still believed money could save him.
Eleanor stood at the head of the table.
She confessed that five years earlier, she had used company influence to suppress Claire Matthews’s complaint against Michael.
She had believed Michael was a frightened husband acting irrationally while his wife fought for her life.
She protected the family name.
That decision allowed him to bury evidence and later build an entire criminal scheme.
“I chose reputation over accountability,” Eleanor said. “Everything that followed grew from that choice.”
Several directors looked horrified.
Michael smiled on the screen.
“You see? She admits corruption.”
“Yes,” Eleanor replied. “And I am resigning as chairwoman.”
The room erupted.
She raised one hand.
“My resignation becomes effective after an independent investigation and full cooperation with authorities.”
Michael’s smile vanished.
Eleanor then nominated me as interim chair.
I stared at her.
“I don’t want control handed to me because of what happened.”
“It isn’t being handed to you,” she said. “The board will vote.”
Michael’s attorney objected.
Rachel presented the blocked transfer records and proof that Michael’s voting rights were suspended.
The vote proceeded.
Ten directors supported me.
Two opposed.
One abstained.
Michael began shouting through the screen.
He accused me of seducing his mother’s loyalty.
He said the company belonged to him by blood.
I leaned toward the camera.
“Your blood did not build this company. People did.”
Then the detective entered the boardroom.
Laboratory results from the champagne had returned.
The drink contained a powerful sedative not prescribed to me.
Dr. Hart had admitted providing it to Michael.
Michael’s attorneys stopped speaking.
The detective announced that warrants had been approved for fraud, identity theft, attempted custodial interference, witness intimidation, and reckless endangerment.
Michael disconnected from the call.

But police were already outside his attorney’s building.
👉 Michael’s arrest ended his plan—but the hardest moment came when Leo asked why his father had tried to take him away.
