Chapter 3 - The Trust Lily Activated

Victor Lang refused to answer Ethan’s calls.
That lasted less than a day.
Once Detective Mitchell contacted him, he hired a lawyer.
Ethan hired one too.
Her name was Rachel Sloan.
She reviewed Ethan’s father’s estate documents.
Then looked at him.
“Did anyone ever explain the Walker Family Continuation Trust?”
“No.”
“You should’ve been told.”
The trust had been created by Ethan’s grandfather.
It held shares in Walker Agricultural Properties, commercial land worth roughly fourteen million dollars.
Marlene controlled income from the trust while Ethan had no children.
Then Lily was born.
That changed everything.
Under the trust terms, once Ethan had a legally recognized child, control shifted gradually away from Marlene and toward Ethan’s branch.
By Lily’s first birthday, Marlene would lose majority voting authority.
Ethan stared at Rachel.
“So Mom loses control because Lily exists?”
“Yes.”
“And Ava knew?”
Rachel opened an email.
Ava had contacted the law firm three months after Lily’s birth.
She questioned several withdrawals.
Marlene had transferred more than $900,000 from trust-controlled accounts into consulting companies.
One company was linked to Victor Lang.
Ethan felt cold.
“Ava found it.”
“She found enough to ask questions.”
Then Rachel uncovered something worse.
Two weeks before Ava disappeared, Victor drafted a document titled:
VOLUNTARY DISCLAIMER OF SPOUSAL AND GUARDIAN CLAIMS.
Ava’s supposed signature appeared at the bottom.
Ethan stared.
“She never signed this.”
Rachel agreed.
The signature looked questionable.
If accepted, the document could weaken Ava’s ability to challenge certain trust decisions connected to Lily.
“And if Ava disappeared?”
Rachel’s expression hardened.
“Marlene could argue she abandoned the household and attempt to preserve temporary administrative control.”
Everything suddenly connected.
Marlene calling Ava unstable.
Marlene telling Ethan his wife wanted freedom.
Marlene insisting Lily was “too young to matter.”
And now—
Marlene threatening Lily with Ava’s life.
Ethan whispered:
“She didn’t hate Ava because Ava married me.”
Rachel shook her head.
“She hated what Ava discovered.”
Then Detective Mitchell called.
The motel’s parking contractor had retained license-plate records.
Victor’s black SUV left the Ashford Inn at 11:43 p.m.
The passenger was logged by the gate camera.
Female.
Brown hair.
Matching Ava.
Victor had driven Ethan’s missing wife away.
But not toward Marlene’s house.
The SUV traveled north.

Toward a private residential medical facility called Cedar Ridge Recovery Center.
👉 Ava hadn’t vanished after leaving the motel—Victor had driven her to a private facility, and Ethan was about to learn under whose authority she had been admitted.
