Chapter 4 - The Woman in Room 308

Cedar Ridge refused to confirm Ava was there.
Medical privacy rules prevented staff from speaking casually.
Ethan understood that.
His attorney obtained emergency legal review.
Detective Mitchell handled the investigative side.
Then the answer came.
A patient matching Ava’s identity had been admitted six weeks earlier.
But not as Ava Walker.
As Ava Monroe.
Her maiden name.
Ethan’s heart raced.
“Can I see her?”
Not immediately.
There were legal questions around the admission.
The file claimed Ava entered voluntarily for severe emotional exhaustion and requested no contact with Ethan.
Ethan stared at the document.
“She would never do that.”
Rachel pointed to the signature.
Ava Walker.
Different from the Ava Monroe identity at the top.
That inconsistency triggered scrutiny.
Then Ethan saw the emergency contact.
Marlene Walker.
His mother.
His hands curled into fists.
“Where is Ava?”
An administrator finally agreed to speak after authorities became involved.
Ava was alive.
Stable.
And asking to leave.
Ethan stopped breathing.
“Alive?”
“Yes.”
He sat down.
Six weeks of nightmares collapsed at once.
Alive.
Ava was alive.
When Ethan finally saw her, she looked thinner.
Tired.
But unmistakably Ava.
She stared at him through the doorway.
Then began crying.
“Ethan?”
He crossed the room.
She ran into his arms.
Neither could speak.
Finally Ava whispered:
“Lily?”
“Safe.”
Ava sobbed against him.
Ethan held her tighter.
“I thought you left us.”
Ava pulled back.
“Marlene told me you wanted me gone.”
Ethan stared.
“What?”
Ava said Victor had shown her printed messages supposedly from Ethan.
They said Ethan believed Ava was unstable.
That he wanted custody of Lily.
That he would expose her if she fought him.
“They weren’t from me.”
“I know that now.”
Ava explained the motel.
Marlene brought her there after an argument.
Claimed Ethan needed space.
Victor arrived with papers.
When Ava refused to sign, he told her she was emotionally deteriorating.
Then Cedar Ridge.
“A doctor told me I had requested admission.”
“Did you?”
“No.”
“Did anyone force you physically?”
Ava shook her head.
“No. They lied until I thought nobody would believe me.”
That distinction mattered.
This wasn’t a dungeon.
It was paperwork.
Manipulation.
Isolation.
False information.
Then Ava’s expression changed.
“There’s something else.”
“What?”
“I hid evidence before Marlene took my phone.”
“Where?”
Ava looked at him.
“With Lily.”
Ethan froze.
“What do you mean?”
“I sewed it inside her purple unicorn shirt.”
The same shirt Lily had been wearing when Ethan found Marlene pinning her down.
Marlene hadn’t been trying to silence Lily randomly.
May you like
She had been searching for something.
👉 Ava was alive—and she revealed that the evidence Marlene desperately wanted had been hidden in Lily’s clothing the entire time.
