Chapter 14 - Judith’s Final Lie

Judith denied everything.
She claimed Colonel Vale manipulated her.
She said the signatures were Daniel’s responsibility.
She insisted Claire had targeted the family because Daniel refused to marry her.
Then one of the original dinner guests stood.
Margaret Ellis had sat three chairs away when Judith grabbed Claire’s collar.
“I watched you attack her.”
Judith glared.
“You were drinking.”
“I had one glass.”
Another guest stood.
Then another.
The estate’s head server produced the dining room security recording.
Judith had ordered the footage deleted.
The server saved a copy after noticing a technician tampering with the system.
The video captured everything.
Judith’s ultimatum.
Her hands on Claire’s uniform.
Daniel’s silence.
Claire’s restraint.
And Judith whispering to her attorney moments after Claire left:
Release the statement now. Make sure they call her unstable.
Judith stopped speaking.
The room became silent.
Claire did not smile.
Vindication did not restore the trust she had lost.

But it returned the truth to the people who had watched her be humiliated.
👉 The evidence cleared Claire’s name—but Daniel still wanted something from her that no investigation could give back.
