Chapter 9 - Daniel’s Signature
At the bottom of several contracts was Daniel’s signature.
He recognized the shape.
But he had never signed those pages.
Daniel managed the charitable foundation, not the construction division.
Judith often asked him to sign routine approvals.
She told him the documents funded veterans’ housing programs.
Now he saw the company names listed in Claire’s investigation letter.
He called the corporate attorney.
No answer.
He called the chief financial officer.
The number had been disconnected.
Then Daniel found an email printout.
From Judith to the CFO.
Daniel will sign whatever I place in front of him.
His stomach turned.
Judith had not merely exploited Claire.
She had used her own son as a shield.
Daniel photographed every page.
For the first time in his life, he did something without asking his mother’s permission.
He called Claire.
She did not answer.
He left a voicemail.
“I found documents. My signature was forged on some of them. I think my mother used both of us.”
He waited.
No response came.
Then he heard Judith behind him.
“You have no idea what you just destroyed.”
Daniel turned.
