Chapter 11 - Midnight at St. Catherine’s

Detective Alvarez ordered Lucas not to go.
He agreed.
Then he went anyway.
He did not tell Walter because he knew the old man would try to stop him.
Lucas arrived at St. Catherine’s shortly before midnight wearing a hidden recorder Alvarez had given him for emergencies.
The hospital had been abandoned for twenty years.
Rain dripped through broken ceilings.
His flashlight swept across faded room numbers.
“Hello?”
A figure stepped from an old pharmacy.
It was one of the fake medical workers from the mansion.
His name was Derek Shaw.
He raised both hands.
“I don’t want trouble.”
“You tried to kill Walter.”
“I was hired to transport him. I didn’t know Rachel planned a murder until she handed me the insulin.”
Derek explained that Rachel had promised him $50,000 to inject Walter after Lucas discovered the body.
Then Lucas would appear responsible.
“Why help me now?”
“Because she tried to have me killed after the greenhouse.”
Derek gave Lucas the bottle and a memory card.
The card contained audio messages from Rachel.
Her voice was unmistakable.
“Wait until Lucas enters the room. Then inject Walter. Leave the syringe in Lucas’s tool bag.”
Lucas felt sick.
It was enough to prove intent.
A metal door slammed somewhere behind them.
Derek went pale.
“She found me.”
The lights in the corridor switched on one by one.
Rachel’s voice came through the hospital intercom.
“Lucas, you never could follow instructions.”
He looked toward the nearest exit.
Locked.
Derek pulled a small knife.
Lucas grabbed his wrist.
“Don’t make this worse.”
“I’m not protecting myself from you.”
A shadow crossed the frosted glass at the end of the hall.
Then Adrian emerged, holding a gasoline can.
Rachel walked behind him with a lighter.

“You should have stayed in jail,” she told Lucas.
👉 Rachel had brought Lucas to the same abandoned hospital where his mother had been erased—and she intended to finish the family secret there.
