Chapter 22 - THE LONDON TRAP

I had flown to London for a meeting that did not exist.
The lender’s actual meeting had been rescheduled three weeks earlier.
Their office sent the notice to Wentworth Properties.
I never received it.
Instead, I received a replacement confirmation from an address that looked almost identical to the lender’s.
The fake message included an agenda.
Names of executives.
A real conference room.
Even restaurant reservations.
Whoever created it had access to internal travel details.
Naomi traced the message route.
It passed through a domain purchased eleven months earlier by a corporate-services firm.
The purchaser used a privacy service.
Payment came from Vale Legal Group.
Martin’s lawyers claimed the domain had been registered for a legitimate client cybersecurity exercise.
Nobody believed the coincidence.
Then came the hotel tablet.
Kingston Executive Services provided its booking records.
A Vale Legal Group corporate card paid for the courier who collected my device.
The pickup authorization specifically instructed the driver to obtain my “secured work tablet” and deliver it to a private technology suite in London.
The suite had been rented for four hours.
By Vale Legal Group.
My tablet was later found in a courier storage locker.
Wiped.
But not clean enough.
Forensic technicians recovered a connection log showing the device communicated with Martin’s legal-administration server while it was out of my possession.
The sequence became devastatingly clear.
Martin sent me overseas.
Removed my tablet.
Used the device certificate.
Created the proxy.
Entered my house.
Opened the safe.
Took the red folder.
Then expected Margaret and Carla to stage Irene as a thief.
All before London business hours could expose the fake meeting.
That was why he told them they had until two.
I sat beside Irene while Rachel explained it.
Irene covered her mouth.
“He built the whole night.”
“Yes.”
“But why risk being there himself?”
“The folder.”
That remained the obsession.
The one physical document he could not forge away.
My father’s resolution.
We still didn't have it.
Martin’s team shifted strategy.
They stopped denying the London setup completely.
Instead they argued his actions were part of an authorized investigation into suspected theft by Irene and that the digital proxy had been created under emergency powers.
It was audacious.
But audacity works when documents are complicated enough.
He claimed he believed Irene was removing confidential corporate records.
He claimed Margaret entered the house as a family beneficiary.
He claimed Carla’s conduct was unfortunate but independent.
He claimed he left before any violence escalated.
Then his lawyers filed a motion asking the court to validate the proxy under the 2019 authority.
The hearing was forty-eight hours away.
Without the original revocation resolution, he still had a path.
Not a good path.
But one path was enough to keep the company frozen.

And that was when Naomi found the digital shadow of the signature event on my recovered tablet.
📖 London was not bad luck but a carefully engineered absence, and the tablet’s hidden forensic record finally showed who had operated my identity from thousands of miles away. 👇
