Chapter 25 - THE RED FOLDER RETURNS

The warrant was signed at 7:06 a.m.
By 8:20, investigators were inside Vale Legal Group.
I was not there.
That mattered.
For weeks, Martin had painted every action I took as revenge.
This one belonged to prosecutors.
Detective Brooks called Rachel first.
They found the silver document case in a locked records cabinet inside Martin’s private office.
Broken latch.
Black leather handle.
Inside were seven documents.
And a torn red leather folder.
The missing strip from my safe fit the tear.
Not metaphorically.
Physically.
The forensic technician photographed the alignment before touching anything.
I sat in Rachel’s conference room and watched the evidence photographs arrive.
The first document was an Alder Crest approval sheet.
The second was an internal audit request.
The third was my father’s handwritten note.
Martin’s financial authority ends with this resolution. Audit every Alder Crest payment. Do not let this disappear into family politics.
My father’s handwriting.
I knew it before the examiner confirmed it.
The fourth document was the one we had been missing.
BOARD RESOLUTION — REVOCATION OF OUTSIDE COUNSEL FINANCIAL AUTHORITY.
Signed by Charles Wentworth.
Countersigned by the board secretary.
Dated six years earlier.
Effective immediately.
Martin’s authority had been revoked before the first known fraudulent transfer.
He knew because a fifth document contained his acknowledgment.
Received and understood.
Martin Vale.
The legal argument collapsed in one line.
The proxy he created using my stolen signature was not an emergency exercise of valid authority.
He had no underlying authority.
The sixth document was worse for him.
A handwritten accounting note from my father listed three suspicious Alder Crest payments and the initials M.V.
The seventh was a draft request for an independent forensic audit.
My father had been preparing to investigate Martin when he died.
We had the major answer.
Martin took the folder because it proved Charles stripped him of financial power.
But the folder also answered a more personal question.
My father had not trusted Margaret with the information.
His note instructed the board secretary to keep the audit outside the family office “until scope is known.”
Charles had already recognized that family loyalty could compromise accountability.
I had spent years doing the opposite.
At 10:04, Rachel returned to court with certified evidence from the search.
Martin’s attorneys asked for a continuance.
The judge granted only forty-five minutes.
The lender delayed enforcement pending the ruling.
Then Luis Ortega entered the courtroom.
He had decided to testify.
He brought the original handwritten gate dispatch sheet from the night of the attack—created before the cloud logs were deleted.
1:28 VALE VEHICLE.
1:39 VALE EXIT.
Carrying document case.
The digital evidence now had paper.
The witness now had courage.
And the stolen folder was back where Martin never expected it to be.

On the table in front of a judge.
📖 Recovering my father’s resolution destroyed Martin’s authority, but one final confrontation still had to establish what Margaret knowingly chose to do inside our bedroom. 👇
