Bethany hired separate counsel.
The family front cracked.
Robert and Linda shared one legal strategy.
Bethany wanted her own.
That mattered.
Through her attorney, Bethany denied suggesting theft.
She said she proposed a “secured family loan” from Sophie’s trust to Parker Development.
She believed I would approve.
Then Marcus produced the meeting notes.
Bethany:
Daniel will never approve if you call it a rescue loan.
Robert:
Then what do you suggest?
Bethany:
Make Linda trustee. She can approve it as an investment.
Linda:
Daniel already rejected that.
Bethany:
Then don’t ask him twice.
The room went silent when Rachel read it aloud.
Not because it proved every later step.
Because it showed the shift from persuasion to bypass.
Then another line.
Robert:
First Atlantic still has veto rights.
Bethany:
Give them the conflict waiver.
Marcus:
Who signs Daniel?
No answer recorded.
Three days later, the forged waiver was created.
Causality.
Then Bethany’s financial motive appeared.
Parker Development owed her consulting company $420,000 in deferred fees.
If the company defaulted, she likely lost most of it.
She also personally guaranteed a $300,000 event-production credit line tied to one of Parker Development’s new mixed-use projects.
She had more at stake than loyalty.
My sister needed the company alive too.
Then something complicated my anger.
Bethany’s attorney produced messages where she repeatedly told Robert to sell one stalled development instead.
Bethany:
Take the loss.
Robert:
We are not selling at the bottom.
Bethany:
Then stop pretending liquidity appears from nowhere.
Robert refused.
The trust plan came later.
Bethany did not begin by targeting Sophie.
She joined after safer options failed.
That did not excuse her.
It made the escalation understandable.
Then Dr. Levin called.
Sophie had spontaneously described the bathroom again.
“Aunt Beth hurt face.”
My chest tightened.
“How?”
“She tapped her own cheek, then said ‘stop cry.’”
No direct accusation in adult language.
Dr. Levin documented it.
Then police located something physical.
A guest bathroom towel had a small smear of Sophie’s birthday makeup near the lower cabinet.
Beside it, a broken pearl from Bethany’s bracelet.
Bethany had lost one pearl during the party.
Her bracelet in photographs was intact before 2:40.
Missing a pearl after I slapped her?
Possible.
But the pearl was found inside the bathroom before police collected her jewelry.
Could have fallen when she brought Sophie there.
Not proof of hitting.
Opportunity.
Then Bethany’s attorney changed strategy.
She offered to cooperate about the financial scheme.
Not the child abuse.
She wanted to say Linda was responsible for restraining Sophie.
The video showed Bethany holding one arm.
Her credibility already had limits.
But the family alliance was breaking.
