Chapter 22 - THE NIGHT VICTORIA CHANGED THE PLAN

Daniel surrendered Victoria’s full message history.

One deleted conversation required forensic recovery.

It occurred the day before the hockey-stick attack.

Victoria had written:

Grace has something.

Daniel:

What?

Victoria:

An envelope. DNA lab logo.

Daniel:

Then assume she tested.

Victoria:

She cannot give it to Nathan.

Daniel:

Offer money. I’ll draft terms.

Victoria:

She won’t take it.

Daniel:

Then we litigate.

Twenty minutes later:

Victoria:

You don’t understand. If he sees it, he’ll know everything.

Daniel:

He already may.

Victoria:

Not what I did.

There it was.

The attack was not only about Lily’s paternity.

Victoria feared Nathan learning what she had done to hide it.

Forged settlement.

Surveillance.

Financial fraud.

Share pledges.

Four years of lies.

Daniel replied:

Do not go near her.

Victoria:

Too late.

The next morning, she asked Helen whether Lily would be at the mansion.

That was the shift.

From legal coercion to personal confrontation.

Investigators then reconstructed Victoria’s movements.

She visited a lender at noon.

The lender informed her that the wedding had to close before the next repayment date or her $12 million facility would default.

She met her father at two.

His company faced foreclosure.

She argued with Daniel at four.

At six, she drove toward Nathan’s home.

At 6:12, she stopped at a storage unit containing items she had removed from the mansion.

She retrieved the hockey stick.

Then she entered my kitchen.

Desperation did not excuse violence.

But it explained escalation.

The bigger twist came from the storage-unit inventory.

Victoria had stored much more than the hockey stick.

Copies of Nathan’s passport.

His signature samples.

Old company seals.

Blank Cole Meridian letterhead.

My employment documents.

Lily’s surveillance photographs.

Project Harbor files.

Everything needed to continue manipulating records even after she lost access to Nathan’s home.

And one sealed package labeled:

POST-WEDDING.

Inside were draft documents transferring part of Nathan’s personal investment portfolio to a marital holding company.

His signature line was blank.

Daniel’s notary block was already completed.

Daniel stared at the photograph when Rebecca showed him.

“I never notarized that.”

The handwriting was not his.

Victoria had begun forging her own brother’s notary certification.

The liar had outgrown her collaborators.

That was why everyone around her had become disposable.

Charles.

Helen.

Daniel.

Me.

Eventually, perhaps Nathan too.

One file contained a draft media strategy for an eventual divorce.

Allegations of emotional neglect.

Financial control.

Infidelity.

She planned to marry Nathan while preparing the story she would tell when she left him.

Nathan read only one page.

Then he closed it.

“I’m done learning how little of our relationship was real.”

Rebecca nodded.

“Then focus on what has to be proven.”

The final missing evidentiary link was no longer motive.

It was intent during the kitchen attack.

Did Victoria mean to seriously harm me?

The answer might be inside Nathan’s house.

Because one hidden microphone was still running that night.
